James David Knight is a composer, guitarist/keyboard player who has been playing various musical instruments for 40 years. His first instrument was the clarinet; then alto saxaphone; then the baritone saxaphone. He then discovered the guitar... and his life was changed forever.
Knight has strong influences in acoustic, electronic, and classical genres. Although his main instrument is the guitar, his most recent exploits have been sequencer and synthesizer-based Theme Music, with emphasis on Soundtrack and Computer Game material.
His compositions are usually theme and concept-driven, where the music usually dictates the theme, and from there "feel follows functon". Knight indicates that it is impossible for him to focus on any particular genre, while still maintaining his signature sound with soaring guitar riffs.
Incidentally, much of the guitar solo voices heard throughout his music are produced using a synthesizer keyboard. However, his main instruments consist of:
Fender USA Stratocaster w/GK3 MIDI pickup,
Gibson Les Paul Studio,
Epiphone SG Doubleneck (modified),
Takamine 'Nashville' acoustic/electric,
Takamine 'New Yorker' KOA parlor guitar,
Korg Triton Extreme synthesizer, w/Karma option,
various other synthesizer modules,
Roland GI-20 MIDI convertor,
various drum machines,
Peavey Classic Chorus stereo amp,
various effects processors and microphones.
In 1994 Knight released his first CD, intitled 'Leap Of Faith'. He will be releasing his second CD, titled 'Works' later this year. The title song for this album may be heard here.
Thanks for listening.
