PAUL SYLVAIN was born and raised in Nashua, New Hampshire, and has been playing guitar for almost five decades. Music has always been a part of his life, beginning with watching the Les Paul & Mary Ford show as a toddler, and listening to his parents old country and early rock 'n' roll records at home. He recalls hearing "Rumble" by Link Wray as a nine-year-old boy in 1958 and knowing that he wanted to play guitar like that "someday". While influenced by the Beatles and other "British Invasion" bands in 1964, Paul was drawn more to the American blues songs performed by British blues-based bands like the Animals, Rolling Stones and early Yardbirds. His love affair and dedication to the blues continues to this day.
Over the years, Paul played in "GI" bands while stationed with the Air Force in West, Berlin, Germany, and Rockville/Keflavik, Iceland. He has also performed with bands and solo in Maine, Texas and his native New Hampshire.
His current band, THE ROCKIN' ROAD DOGS, began life as ARGO in Bucks Harbor/Machias, Maine, in 1973, with David Green (bass), Rod Kawashima (rhythm guitar) and Darrel Bowman (drums). It evolved into The Rockin' Road Dogs, with David Green on bass, Doug Mugford on blues harp, and Gene Nichols on drums, in October 2004, when the band headlined a two-night blues concert at the University of Maine at Machias Performing Arts Center. Between 2004 and 2009, drummers Joe Lepore and Kris Richardson also performed at various times with the Dogs. The band has released two original music CDs: "(She's My) Northern Girl" in 2006; and "Mustang Driving Mama" in 2007.
In 2009, Paul put the band on hold for more than two years after made a job-related move to Texas. It reformed in May 2011, eight months after he moved back to New Hampshire. The Dogs' current lineup features Paul along with Chuck Gilbert on bass guitar and vocals and Gil Moreau on drums and backup vocals. Other recent alumni included Brian Brook and Howard Page on keyboards.
Paul and The “Dogs” are back, unleashed and ready to rock your socks off.
