Biography

I suppose I'm a bit of a musical nomad, searching for a genre to settle into. I write acoustic based tunes with touches of electonica as well as more experimental stuff, often instrumental. My music is always driven by melody and shifts from style to style with my many musical obsessions. I've played guitar for many years and create music under my name as well as with projects such as 'Lazy Mouse' (Check out the LAZY MOUSE page) I'm most influenced by the great tunesmiths such as Brian Wilson, David Bowie, Stevie Wonder, Joni Mitchell etc as well as a lot of more current stuff : Josh Rouse, Wilco, Keren Ann, Bebel Gilberto, Mercury Rev etc. Finally there's a group of artists that seem to inhabit a wonderful, strange, experimental and melodic place that is probably my biggest current influence. Bands/ artists such as The High Llamas, Stereolab, Orwell, The Aluminium Group, Anthony Rochester, Modular etc; not too well known, sadly, but wonderful! I'm looking forward to reviewing many tunes and hope humbly that people are able to spare the time to give me some feedback on my stuff. Visit again to see what's new Cheers Richard

I'm shocked it took me this long to listen...WOW definetly took me on an amazing tropical journey with all of your tracks. I played them all thru as I was getting ready to go out. I like how each track has a different feel to them. That is how music should be. Your New friend, Mista Perez

Richard John you are a clever musician indeed by the sound of your music. Just been listening to It's Cold Up Here, which despite it's title is a very warm, inviting, bright and breezy number, well played, with the addition of some atmospheric efects. Well worth lots of plays and success.

I'm partial to October, and this tune brought a smile to my face immediately. Melody is almost predicable but you manage to modify and get a lot mileage out of your phrasing. Just enough redundancy and then change, Nice Job

A Wedding In December, is brillant. You are one musical dude. I felt December immediately and it's a little bitter sweet with the dischords and arpeggio's and its excellent. Think about scoring for TV or Movies. There are million stories one can imagine in this music. It's a long piece however maybe not long enough it seems to have so much to say. Excellent.

It's Cold Up Here, smart stuff, great hook, Use of the Banjo gives the tune a very unique signature. I just don't get the time piece ending. You painted an interesting musical picture but it just didn't seem to end right for me regardless I enjoyed it immensely.

"It's Cold Up Here" - I know, I couldn't leave well enough alone; I had to listen some more. Interesting use of the Banjo and overall rhythm, the deep bells are a nice touch, and time piece gongs were a great touch at the end. Hey man, dont undersell your guitar playing, nice chords and very clean playing on the rhythm strokes. Nice stuff. When you have a free moment, kindly listen to a few tunes on my site, I'd appreciate your thoughts and impressions on the music. Good luck in all you do. You're talent is obvious.

"Snowflake in the Dessert" - your sounds truly captured what I believe would be the "Brittleness" of a snowflake in the dessert - Your vocal quality and production here reminded me of Jack Johnson: simple and uncluttered. Well done, and highly imaginative. Really relaxing feel Richard. I liked this a lot. This was dreamy, kaleidoscopic, colorful and surprising in it's fluidity. It kept coming at me with good vibes. I really enjoyed this track.
